Mon, 5 September 2005 Andy Irons gets his first CT win this year by beating Kelly Slater in the final at the Quicksilver Pro in Japan. Under 6-8 foot shifty conditions Andy posted a 9.5 early on in the match although Kelly came right back and posted an 8.83 and a 9.23. This left Andy needing a 8.56 with less than 6 minutes on the clock. Then it came, the wave Andy needed. He pulled in deep and was covered for what seemed forever, pulled up to an insane floater before the wave closed out on him. The score was posted: 9.93. Kelly gets combo-ed in the final.
